Boulder Creek vs. Hoover, Alabama
The Boulder Creek Jaguars made it to the championship game of The Majerle’s Challenge on Saturday night playing Hoover High School. Hoover is a suburb located just south of Birmingham, Alabama. It was the Jags fifth game in 5 nights.
Scoring in the first quarter was fairly even. Tyler Wylie got hot early and kept Boulder Creek in the game. However, 11 first half turnovers by the Jags and a well-disciplined Hoover Bucs offense saw Boulder Creek fall behind at halftime, 26-21. It certainly didn’t help that Weston Newell and Josh Braun sat out a good portion of the second quarter with 2 fouls each. When the Jags protected the ball on offense they did a good job of setting up scoring opportunities. Boulder Creek’s shooting percentage in the first half was a solid 50%.
Playing from behind the entire game Boulder Creek mounted a comeback in the 3rd quarter. Both teams played fundamental team basketball, ran their respective offenses, and protected the ball. At the end of the third quarter BC had closed the deficit to 37-35.
The fourth quarter was close until 3 minutes left. Boulder Creek went cold from the 3 point arc while Hoover moved the ball well and nailed their 3 point shots. The Jags had a chance to make a move at the end but missed free throws cost them dearly. Final score 56-49.
In the final analysis first half turnovers and poor free throw shooting in the final 3 minutes cost Boulder Creek the game.
Next up, the regular season returns as Boulder Creek takes on Mountain Ridge at home on December 13.
