The 2011-12 Boulder Creek Jaguars men’s basketball team shook off first quarter, first game nerves with a smothering defense on its way to a 69-41 victory over North Canyon.
The Jags combination of full court pressure and tight, half court, man-to-man defense produced numerous North Canyon turnovers. Behind the sharp shooting of Josh Braun and Tyler Wiley the Jags ended the first quarter with an 18-6 advantage.
In the second quarter the offense found its groove. Randyll Roberts and Johnnie Panfil ran the offense from the point guard position. The Jags executed the offense with crisp ball movement which produced numerous layup points. Stephen Crim scored 8 points during the run. As the lead grew, Coach Walker was able to go deep into his bench and played 10 players throughout much of the second quarter. Off the bench the Jags didn’t miss a beat and continued to build on the lead finishing the first half with a 37-18 lead.
In the second half Josh Braun and Weston Newell used a lethal combination of aggressive drives and pull up jumpers to extend the BC Jaguar lead. Marcus Jarrett came off the bench and lit up the scoreboard with 3 three point shots from the wing. Throughout the game the Jags used a solid, balanced scoring attack to extend the lead. Josh Braun paced the Jaguar scoring attack with 19 points. Newell and Crim had 11 each.
It was special to note the number of Boulder Creek students that attended this away game. Far outnumbering the home team fans, the well organized section of students provided our Jaguars with enthusiastic support. Well done Jag Nation!!
