Unfortunately for the BC Jags, solid team play from the previous game over North Canyon could not carry forward. A dismal second half effort on both offense and defense resulted in a loss to the Phoenix Horizon Huskies 65-54.
Boulder Creek started the game playing tough defense, but couldn’t hit their shots. Play was sloppy on both ends of the court and the first quarter ended with BC behind 12-10. In the second quarter the Jags played like the team we saw the night before. Lock down defense and exceptional ball movement on offense vaulted the Jaguars to a halftime lead of 33-21. Josh Braun slashed to the basket and hit pull up jumpers to lead the scoring effort. Offensive rebounding contributed to numerous second chance points.
The third quarter saw the Horizon offense come alive with fast break points and accurate outside shooting. The Jaguars offense did not get the ball movement vital to set up scoring opportunities. Far too much standing around and one-on-one offense resulted in turnovers and missed shots. Horizon went on a 10-0 scoring run early in the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter the 12 point halftime lead turned in to a 44-41 deficit.
The fourth quarter saw much the same play as the third quarter. At one point the Jags cut the Horizon lead to 5 but missed scoring opportunities, turnovers, and sharp 3 point shooting by the Huskies proved to be too much to overcome.
In the final analysis the BC Jaguars did not have the full court or half court defensive intensity to get the job done. Throw in a horrible shooting percentage and the result was a very disappointing loss.
Up next is the Jaguars home opener against a very talented Westwind Prep team on December 6.
