Jaguars Get Big Region Win

The Boulder Creek Jaguars came away with a crucial victory on Tuesday night with a surprisingly easy 63-47 win over the visiting Deer Valley Skyhawks. In the process the Jags improved their season record to an impressive 13-5 mark. The win also moved Boulder Creek into a tie for first place in the Northwest region. The Skyhawks put a very athletic team on the floor that proved to be a challenge to the vaunted Jag defense and the teams went into halftime with Boulder Creek holding a slim 3 point advantage. The Jags stretched the lead to 7 after three quarters and then a strong fourth quarter finish propelled the team to a comfortable margin of victory.

Boulder Creek was led by Josh Braun (18 points, 9 rebounds), Joe Simpson (18 points, 5 rebounds) and Ryan Zettle (9 points, 6 steals, 9 assists). The Jags also got superb all around efforts from Weston Newell, Cort Watson, Jake Hunt, Randyll Roberts, Conor Kuchar and Stephen Crim, all of whom contributed on both ends of the floor. The Jags encountered an aggressive defensive effort by Deer Valley, which resulted in a lower than normal field goal percentage. However, as a team the Jags shot 70% from the line, snared 35 rebounds, had 13 steals and were credited with 17 assists for the night. Boulder Creek won those telling statistical categories by significant margins and that kind of production translates into wins.

Boulder Creek resumes action on January 21st when they travel to face arch rival O’Connor. The Jags will be looking to avenge their only regional loss and are hoping for a good turnout from Jaguar Nation.
