Jags Fall in Season Opener

The Boulder Creek Jaguars opened their 2010/2011 campaign with a tough loss on the road to a talented Desert Mountain team by a final score of 63-62. The game was very competitive from the opening tip off and saw several lead changes over the course of the game. The teams were evenly matched and even though it was early in the season the game had an almost playoff like atmosphere. The Wolves proved to be a strong opponent and since they already played multiple games this season they did not exhibit any first game jitters. They also were effective both inside the paint and from long range, despite strong pressure from the Jags. Even though this was the opening game for the Jaguars, they played hard and showed grit throughout the contest, showing a lot of promise for the coming season. The team has a great combination of experienced veterans and promising new talent and odds are strong that they will make a lot of noise in their conference this season.

The Jags were paced in scoring by the powerful one-two punch of junior Weston Newell (21 points) and sophomore Josh Braun (19 points). Both were also active on the boards and generating numerous defensive steals. Ryan Zettle as usual effectively ran the Jags offense from the point position and gave the Jags a strong defensive effort. Boulder Creek also received solid play from Stephen Crim (7 points), Joe Simpson (6 points) and Cort Watson (4 points), who always impresses with his unselfish team play. The entire Boulder Creek team again displayed the tenacious defense that has become a hallmark of Jags basketball since the arrival of head coach Randy Walker and his staff. The Jaguars also received effective contributions from Jake Hunt, Randyll Roberts and Connor Kuchar. This team is deep with interchangeable parts and fans can expect to see many different rotations throughout the season.

Boulder Creek returns to the friendly confines of Jaguar gymnasium this Thursday for their home opener against Millennium. This game also promises to be tough competition but the Jags will be looking to avenge one of only two losses from last year's championship season. Boulder Creek plays an exciting up-tempo brand of basketball and the team is looking for Jaguar Nation to show up in force to cheer them to victory this week.
