Jags Move On To Tempe

The Boulder Creek Jaguars made it to the Final Four in Class 5A2 with a thrilling 52-50 victory over visiting Desert Mountain on Saturday night. The win propels the Jaguars to a semi-final game at Arizona State Uiversity on Tuesday afternnon. As expected Desert Mountain gave the Jags all they could handle and in fact opened up a 10 point lead during the contest. But Boulder Creek has no quit in them and their tenacity and heart kept them in the game. A near capacity crowd was treated to a very competitive game between two evenly matched teams and the outcome was uncertain until the last few seconds of the final quarter. Both teams played aggressive and relentless man to man defense and every shot was contested throughout the game.

Boulder Creek had a well balanced attack, led by Weston Newell (14 points, 4 steals), Ryan Crane (12 points, 3 rebounds), Josh Braun (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Alex Dykhuizen (8 points, 14 rebounds). Defensively it was another solid effort by the entire team. Even though Desert Mountain did a good job of neutralizing many of the Jags' offensive options, the team understands that they are never out of a game as long as their defensive intensity and hustle remains constants.

In Tuesday's semi-final contest the Jaguars will take on the highly touted Horizon Huskies at 4:15 PM in Wells Fargo Arena on the campus of Arizona State University. The winner of that contest will earn the right to play in the Class 5A2 state championship game at 4:00 PM on Wednesday. The Jags are hoping for a large turnout from Jaguar Nation as they continue their quest for a state title.
