The Boulder Creek Jaguars continued their torrid play in the Northwest Region and easily dispatched the Kingman Bulldogs on Tuesday by a final score of 57-39. The Jaguars showed no ill effects from the 3 hour bus ride and the long wait in the Bulldogs gymnasium before tipoff of the varsity game. The win pushes the Jags record to 18-2 for the season and they remain undefeated in regional play at 8-0. Defensive intensity was immediately evident as the Jags limited Kingman to just 4 first quarter points and raced to a 15 point half time lead. That gap swelled to 23 at the end of the 3rd quarter and Boulder Creek never looked back. Offensive execution was consistent and gave the Bulldogs fits as they attempted to slow down the multi-pronged jaguar attack. Because of the comfortable margin, Coach Randy Walker was able to use his reserves for significant minutes as most starters played less than three quarters in the game. This allowed Coach Walker to address some nagging injuries to a couple of his players in preparation for the stretch run of the schedule and hopefully in the state playoffs.
Boulder Creek was led by Weston Newell (18 points, 4 assists) and Ryan Crane (17 points, 7 rebounds). The Jags continue to display an unselfish approach to the game and all the players that saw action made solid contributions over the course of the contest. The Jaguars return home on Friday as they take on Valley Vista in another regional match up. Valley Vista is the lone regional opponent that Boulder Creek has not yet faced and the game is highly anticipated by the team. With only six games remaining in their regular season the Jags are poised to make a run at the best record in their short history. Coach Walker fully realizes the importance of the remaining games, especially if the Jags are to maintain their current state ranking and advance to the state playoffs. So far this season the Jaguars have proven to be a driven and focused team that epitomizes the “One Team…One Vision…One Goal” motto that is so prominently woven into the fabric of the Boulder Creek program. All aboard for what promises to be an exciting ride the rest of the way!
