Jags defeat Desert Mountain
The Boulder Creek Jaguars continued a good start to their 2009/2010 season with an impressive 60 to 49 win over the visiting Desert Mountain Wolves on Tuesday. Once again the Jaguars exhibited a strong team defensive effort that disrupted their opponents and contributed to several fast break and transitional scores. Coach Randy Walker elected to apply full court pressure for most of the game and it paid dividends, leading to 19 steals spread out among seven Jags players. Offensively the Jags unselfishly distributed the ball shooting 49% from the field, hitting on 23 of 47 attempts. The game epitomized a team effort with solid contributions from several players. Ryan Crane and Alex Dykhuizen each had 17 points to lead Boulder Creek but they had plenty of help from Weston Newell (13), Josh Braun (6), Joe Simpson (4) and point guard Ryan Zettle (3). The Jaguars hit the boards hard as well, garnering 28 total rebounds with center Dykhuizen leading the way with 10 caroms. Next up for the Jags is a visit to a very athletic Millenium High School team in Goodyear on Thursday night. The Jags return home to face Red Mountain on Friday evening. Make plans to come out and see an exciting brand of high school basketball and support the Jaguars.
