Jags continue their winning ways and capture first place at Great Desert Shoot Out

The Boulder Creek Jaguars continued their tournament title march with a dramatic 78-59 win against the Dysart Demons in the championship game of the Great Desert Shootout on Wednesday night. This latest victory caps off an impressive holiday performance which saw Boulder Creek play in the championship games in both tournaments in which they competed. The Jags would not be denied in the final game as they started strong and steadily built an insurmountable lead. Once again Coach Randy Walker had the luxury of playing all 12 Jaguars for considerable minutes. The Boulder Creek defense as usual was a catalyst that frustrated their taller opponents all night. Their defensive effort includes a noticeable intensity and appears to be seamless at times. Offensively Boulder Creek torched the Demons with 12 buckets from behind the 3 point arc. Ryan Crane led the barrage hitting on a torrid 8 of 9 attempts, 7 in the first half alone. Crane ended his night with a team high 28 points. The Jaguars also hit the boards hard and distributed the ball to open team mates as evidenced by their 29 rebounds and 22 assists. This was a game that saw significant contributions from all the Jags players including Josh Braun (9 points, 4 rebounds), Alex Dykhuizen (7 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), Randyll Roberts (8 points), Joe Simpson (8 points, 4 rebounds), Weston Newell (7 points, 2 assists, 2 steals), Ryan Zettle (8 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds), Jake Hunt (4 points, 4 rebounds) and Stephen Crim (3 points). Crane and fellow co-captain Dykhuizen were both selected to the All Tournament Team, and Crane was named tournament MVP. It was obvious to all in attendance that the team displayed solid fundamental basketball, regardless of who was on the court.

The Jaguars are idle until January 8th when they return home to face regional rival Kingman. At 12-2 the Jaguars gave all BCHS fans a December to remember and are anxious to continue the momentum in 2010.
