The Boulder Creek Jaguars wasted no time in getting into the Christmas spirit by giving Coach Randy Walker an early present and improving their record to 7-1. The Jaguars easily won their tipoff game in the Horizon Invitational Tournament with a convincing 75-44 win over the 2009 4AII state champion Greenway Demons on Thursday night.
Once again team defense was a differentiator for Boulder Creek , shutting down Greenway’s attack and leading to numerous transition baskets. For the third game in less than ten days the Jaguars built an insurmountable lead allowing Coach Walker to find significant minutes for the entire team.
All twelve Jags players saw action and all twelve contributed to the scoring barrage. Alex Dykhuizen had a team high 19 points and Ryan Crane and Ryan Zettle added 12 each. The Jaguars continue to epitomize the team concept on both offense and defense as evidenced by 14 assists and 13 steals. Boulder Creek also pounded the boards grabbing 38 rebounds, lead by Dykhuizen (10), Simpson (5) and Crane, Braun and Newell (4 each).
Boulder Creek will face upset winner and region rival Deer Valley in a semifinal game at 8:00 PM on Friday evening. The winner moves on to the championship game on Saturday.
