The Boulder Creek Jaguars overcame a sluggish first half and preserved their unbeaten record at home with a hard fought 54-51 victory over visiting Mountain Ridge.
The victory improves their record to 5-1 overall. This was the first regional game for the Jags and they needed a strong second half rally to overcome a deficit of as much as 12 points to seal the win.
Fueled by a full court pressure defense Boulder Creek started to find their shooting touch both inside and from beyond the arc in the final two quarters. Mountain Ridge utilized a very active zone defense that proved to be a real challenge for the Jags for much of the game. The Jags again relied on a strong team defensive effort and played hard even when falling behind early.
Leading scoreres for Boulder Creek were Ryan Crane (17), Alex Dykhuizen (12) and Weston Newell (12).
The Jags enjoyed support from a very vocal home crowd against Mountain Ridge and would like to see the same kind of support next week for their road games. The team will be busy in the coming week as they visit regional foe Willow Canyon on Monday and then prepare for a holiday tournament, which will be held at Horizon High School starting next Thursday.
