The Boulder Creek Jaguars continued their winning ways with a convincing 74-42 road win at regional rival Willow Canyon on Monday. The Jags steadily built a 16 point half time lead and then blew the game open with a strong third quarter.
Once again defensive pressure was the catalyst for Boulder Creek, disrupting the Wildcat offense and leading to numerous steals (13 total). The offense was efficient and effective as the team consistently found the open man. As the Jags increased their scoring cushion, Coach Randy Walker again had the luxury of finding significant minutes for his bench and allowing his starters to limit theirs in preparation for two upcoming holiday tournaments.
Ryan Crane lead the Jags with 18 points, hitting 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. Josh Braun chipped in with 17, Weston Newell added 8 and Ryan Zettle and Jake Hunt each had 7. Nine Jaguars contributed to a very balanced scoring attack. The team also had 33 rebounds, with Alex Dykhuizen and Braun leading the way with 7 caroms each against the taller opposition.
The win gives Boulder Creek an impressive 6-1 record and they are undefeated in regional play at 2-0. Boulder Creek now prepares for what promises to be tough competition in two holiday tournaments. The first is the Horizon Invitational, which kicks off this Thursday (12/17) and runs through Saturday (12/19). The Jags will take on state powerhouse Greenway High School at 6:30 PM.
